About

Hello, I'm Bethany! I am a self-taught front-end web developer, currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science from BSU. I'm currently a member of the UX team at Scentsy building and maitaining web componants for their design system. I specialize in elegant, responsive websites through carefully crafted code and user-centric design. I also have a BA in Performing and Visual Arts from BYU-Idaho and when I'm not coding and designing, I enjoy cooking and backpacking in the Idaho mountains.

Portfolio

Scentsy

Worked with UX designers and technical project manager to build carousels that were in line with ADA accessibility standards. Developed the carousels using Slick-slide JS plugin, jQuery, and Bootstrap 3 and 4 and tested with Voiceover and NVDA screen readers.

IM Services

A website for a Boise-based networking company. The client requested a basic landing page with links to more involved descriptions of their services. The web-site is a static site built with Jekyll, HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript with CloudCannon CMS to enable basic editing for the client. Menu options are still in progress.

Masu Fly Tying Goods

A Wordpress set-up for a fly-fishing materials company in Eastern Idaho. I set-up Wordpress and chose theme and plugins to allow client to scale their site as they develop content. Developed consistant styling and created assets for the site in Adobe Photoshop.

Magic 8 Ball

A snarky, interactive magic 8 ball here to answer all your most burning questions. This is a personal project I used to practice Javascript.

HTML5

HTML for full sites and componants with an emphasis on accessability and SEO optimization.

CSS3 and SASS

Modern CSS scripting using flexbox and grid for layout. Created and maintained SASS stylesheet for business design system.

Java

Object oriented language for Computer Science courses. Use Eclipse IDE extensively.

Javascript and JQuery

DOM manipulation with Vanilla JS and JQuery. Implimenting libraries and frameworks.

Bootstrap 3 and 4

Built web componants in Bootstrap 3 and 4. Updated Bootstrap 3 components to comply with release of 4.

Introduction to Programming

Introduction to programming through the Python language. Projects included using Earsketch program to make music and a playlist analyzer that takes a .csv file as input and analyzes the data.

Computer Science I

Basic Computer Science principles and coding using the Java language and Eclipse IDE. Projects included a playlist analyzer, a text reader and GUI built with JFrame, and a tic tac toe game.

Navigating Computer Systems

Installing and setting up a development environment in Linux on a virtual machine. Navigating the bash terminal, bash commands, and beginning bash scripting

Foundational Values

An introduction to the ethics for Computer Science students. Explored social justice issues through the lens of current technological developments and recent events.

Intermediate Computer Science principles and coding using the Java language and Eclipse IDE. Exploring principles of encapsulation, polymorphism and beginning data structures. Learn how to create data structures implimenting arrays, linked lists, and double linked lists.
